Race day is the canvas. Make art
“Race day is the canvas. Make art.”
.
After introducing you to The Base Model, both V1.0 and V2.0, which are shoes designed for training or daily runs, this post is the turn of the Atreyu brand model that many speedsters have been waiting for: The Artist. It’s a shoe featuring a carbon fiber plate and supercritical EVA midsole foam—a work of art in the form of a speed shoe that everyone can own.
.
Regarding the design of this model, the Atreyu team once said, “Simple design does not mean it is easy. Many times, we have to try to prioritize and pay extreme attention to detail to achieve a result that answers the simplicity we desire... When we created The Artist, we intended to design every part to emerge and blend together perfectly for your success on race day.”
.
The Artist has very worthwhile specifications as follows:
- Upper construction from The Base Model that is reliable, providing a snug fit and a perfect wearing experience.
- Carbon fiber plate with a modern heel-to-toe drop angle.
- ATREYU supercritical EVA midsole that is bouncy yet stable, lightweight yet durable.
- Outsole rubber, only 1 mm thin, with no tread patterns, like F1 racing tires, creating forward traction efficiently while being lightweight.
- 6 mm offset.
- Stack height at 30/24 mm; including the 5 mm insole, it is 35/30 mm.
- Weight 221 grams (size M9).

“We prioritize simplicity so that complexity doesn’t destroy our drive.
Therefore, our only fear is not taking action. We will keep striving because competition is in our souls!”

Runners, get ready to meet a new shoe brand that is currently the buzz in the industry. Let's get to know Atreyu.
.
#TeamATREYU
An American shoe startup brand from Austin, Texas, USA. This brand was founded in 2019 and released its first collection in 2020. One of Atreyu's key founders is Michael Krajicek, a 26-year-old man with his own philosophy who built Atreyu into a trend within the U.S. running shoe industry. Interestingly, Michael's background was not in the big shoe brands; he was not prominent in running or design, and he even graduated with a music degree from Berklee College. Previously, Michael owned a hot dog stand and thought that would be his lifelong profession. But one day, at the age of 26, he stopped his partying lifestyle, soaked in alcohol, and turned his attention to falling in love with running, viewing it as “The Endurance Arts.”
.
More than just a shoe brand, Atreyu is a story of people brought together by simplicity, running, music, art, and the spirit of a fighter. Besides Michael himself, the team is compact but packed with quality, from his brother Gabe, who is a co-founder, to Jake Martin, an expert in athlete coordination, as well as Mary Ann Abney, Griffin Boyd, and Joey Bell in their roles as Chief of Staff, Marketing Specialist, and Specialist of Accounting, respectively.

Honor Simplicity.
From a young man who fell in love with running, Michael decided to change his career path. He closed his shop in Louisiana and moved to Austin, Texas, to work at a running shoe store to study the business model. In addition, he was passionate about designing lightweight, minimalist running shoes with little structure, which he saw as the type of shoe he wanted—offering minimal protection from the ground and providing a “natural running” experience to the wearer. This became the inspiration for him to produce such shoes, leading him to design a shoe devoid of luxury or unnecessary decoration, resulting in The Base Model, a dream shoe suitable for training that was initially sold via subscription.
.
Of course, with shoes designed for training, there must be shoes designed for racing. Atreyu uses a carbon fiber plate and supercritical EVA midsole foam for its lightweight racing shoe, named The Artist, which maintains the concept of simplicity in every aspect. We will dive deeper into both models in upcoming posts.
